Hard clipper in Cubase/Nuendo UPDATE: Nope

FYI, I’ve been playing around with clipper and saturation plug-ins lately and it appears for those looking for a stock hard clipper for Cubase (Pro), all you need to do is set the included SoftClipper harmonic controls to 0%.

Screen shots attached are for a snare hit, comparing original (rendered) drum loop, SoftClipper with 50% harmonics, SoftClipper with 0% harmonics, and for variety, the free KClip Zero plug-in.

All plug-ins have 3.9db input applied. (KClip output a little lower due to oversampling? Regardless, check out the peaks.)

Original track:

SoftClipper with 50% harmonics:

SoftClipper with 0% harmonics:

KClip 0:

UPDATE: Unfortunately, I realized that adjusting gain after-the-fact negates the clipping achieved with the input control. :man_facepalming: Of course this lack of level-matching means SoftClipper is NOT the plugin to use for clipping. Sorry for offering false hope of a stock clipper plugin within Cubase. :slightly_frowning_face:

Interesting… thanks for posting.

Am just experimenting with these types of tools and about to d/load FreeClip2 (FreeSuite). Any others you have knowledge of or would recommend…? KClip 3.5 seems interesting to try too, currently on sale for $34…

I have a few but always reach for SIR Audio Tools StandardCLIP

StandardClip: Good workhorse, very surgical tool!
Not first and foremost a clipper but really good: Kraftur by Soundtheory.

These were my exact words. Try it and you might understand why I barely use StandardClip anymore;)
