Hi everyone! I’ve just updated to the new Dorico 6.2, and sincethen, artificial harmonics haven’t been working as they should. Has anyone found a fix for that? Thanks!
Could be instrument-related. Works with a violin.
Jesper
I’ve just been writing a piano quartet which has string harmonics in one section for all the instruments. Everything works as expected and I haven’t noticed any issues or changes to previous behaviour. If you give specifics – in other words what’s not working with your example – perhaps there is something, though, as there were some minor changes to harmonics with the latest update.
It looks like it might be a problem with your notehead sets, @aledei2250. Check in Library > Notehead Sets to see whether you have any overrides to the notehead sets you’re using. (Check the Harmonics page of Engraving Options to see which notehead sets it’s expecting to use.)
Hm, I get the same, and the notehead sets seem OK, no overrides.

I tried to replicate the screenshot (see above) and both the notation and playback work for me. Perhaps there’s something I did wrong?
The issue is that Dorico isn’t doing the right thing for non-stringed and non-fretted instruments, so you’ll get different results on, say, a flute. We’ll look into this – I’m not actually exactly sure what we intended to happen in this instance, so I need to discuss with the team.
fair enough - in that case it must be just a notation thing as, as far as I’m aware (open to correction!), no library supports flute harmonics.
Basically, the issue is very simple: I want to write a harmonic for the flute, I activate the function, and what I showed in the screenshot happens. If I use a violin, as @jesele mentioned, it works correctly again. I also checked the notehead sets as suggested by @dspreadbury, but I didn’t find anything unusual. If this is a problem that can’t be solved right now without waiting for a fix, I’ll just adapt for the time being. Thanks a lot to everyone!
Curious behaviour: In a violin part I am calling the natural harmonics on each string but the notation does not produce the expected results. The second note of each group in the first bar should sound 2 octaves higher than the open E and A string, but this only works for the lower strings. Any ideas? (The same bug shows up for a viola part). How can I specify the intended string? And I have not found the setting for node/partial.
You’ll need to set the “String” property in the properties panel - that’s in the “Notes and Rests” section rather than the “Harmonics” section, because it doesn’t just affect harmonics.
Thanks! That solved it.
