Has anyone seen Daniel recently?

I’ve been a regular (virtually every day) follower of this forum since Dorico’s beginnings, but I can’t remember the last time we heard from or saw Daniel. I guess the NI story has me a little spooked, so I just wanted to ask, is everything okay?

I’m almost certain I saw his avatar next to a thread yesterday.

I’m sure he’s just under the pump.

Yes, you’re right!…I should have researched more. Apologies for the paranoia…

Curious what you meant by ‘NI story’ though. I haven’t a clue.

I guess, he means Native Instruments and their trouble.

Does this mean that he will not be contributing to the Forum on future ?

If I know him, something extraordinary is going to happen soon!

I don’t think anything posted here has suggested anything of the sort.

Frankly, I’d much rather he spent his time on his main job(s) – marketing, development, admin, the SMuFL and MusicXML committees, (and God forbid have some personal life) – than answering most of the queries here, if someone else can answer them.

I do not agree with your sentmenents at all. Daniel has a much more sympathetic approach to newbies like me than some of the more expert users - and there are many of them on the forum - and this is encouraging for someone like me to ask basic questions which I still sometimes need to do, and often the answers to my queries are so basic that you experts cannot understand why I am asking such a simple question, and the responses can sometimes seem rather unhelpful to me.

Sorry that I am not so much of a daily presence here on the forum these days. There is a lot going on, both professionally and personally. But please rest assured that I and others on the team are still keeping a close eye on the forum, and I will chime in whenever I can! We are hard at work on the next Dorico 6 update, which is coming (relatively) soon.

What does NI have to do with Steinberg?

It’s worth noting NI’s story is a lot different from Steinberg (parent company Yamaha). Steinberg is actually quite focused on their own product line I think, not outside acquisitions. NI has been poorly managed by private equity (with no experience in the music field). They also over-acquired an excess of assets and companies resulting in high debt. Under their current private equity partner they shifted focus more heavily to subscription while abandoning product development and innovation, resulting in a loss of trust and sales (not to mention the plugin and hardware market is over-saturated as it is).

I don’t know Steinberg’s financial situation but I think they are doing fine, because they are being managed by people who understand music and the needs of musicians/composers, not just bankers and investors with year-end sales quotas to meet. The simple fact that Steinberg is constantly active with development and not shoving subscriptions down our throats is a positive sign for the health of the company, I believe - but again, this is all just outside conjecture.

Long story short - I wouldn’t let the NI story spook you. That whole situation is due to poor management and wrong priorities.
