Having the Caret reflect the note length value

Not sure if this is the best place to put this feature request or how others would feel about it. But I wish that the caret would actually reflect my note length value. So the little orange note next to the caret line in note input mode.

I’m often on the go with a single laptop screen and multiple windows open as I do copyist or composition things and so every inch on my display real estate matters. So I often have all panels closed. But with that I can’t see the currently selected note duration.

Of course the easy fix is - when in doubt I just go ahead and select the length # again. But it’s just one more click that could be skipped if the caret would just already tell me. I wouldn’t even need to the see if it has a dot or not as that toggle is still visible with the left panel closed. Just it reflecting quarter, eighth, half, whole note.

Just a thought. I know it’s just a small thing but thought couldn’t hurt to post about it and see what others thought/bring it to the mix.

I don’t know if this will help you, but…

Grille rythmique

My thought is not related to the rhythm grid really as I can still input any note length regardless of what the grid is set to. But thanks for the resource.

Instead of changing the little note at the caret line, an option that would add a highlight beyond the caret line for the duration of the currently selected rhythmic value? (I hope that made sense…)

The trouble is that you wouldn’t know which voice a whole note was in, as it doesn’t have a stem.

Or something like this? I like the idea

And what happens if you change the shortcuts that you use for the durations?

I do like that idea. Just beyond the caret showing- hey here is what amount of time your next note is about to fill.

I guess the big things is all of those uses extra graphic processing resources.

Well, probably like for the popover syntax (even if we can use the letters instead), nothing will change…! That’s why I came back to Dorico defaults after a few months with the Finale values at the beginning.

That’s a great point that I have not thought about yet. Even though I’m constantly using voices as pianist and in choral writing.

Yes, this capability would be a big help, and I constantly regret it doesn’t yet exist in Dorico.

The other is that one can’t click on a measure and know instantly what meter it is in.
