An out-of-state friend recently purchased the UR22mkII interface and can’t seem to get enough volume out of his headphones even with the volume control full up. I think he’s using an old pair of Koss KPH-6. Obviously not the best. I have an extra pair of AKG K141’s I could give him but I’m not sure if the HP output of the UR22mkII is a good match. Seems the output is only 1.5mW at 40 ohms. I don’t mind giving up my extra K141’s but will he be able to get more volume??
600 ohm is too much for that interface. I have a pair with 300 ohm that I use with a 300 ohm headphones amp but when I plug them to my interface the sound is low. It can become nasty loud but I need to turn the volume very high. The headphones of your friend have double impedance. This what he is experimenting is expected.
I think I am not the most indicated for recommending headphones. Very cheap ones can be found everywhere but a little better not being super expensive I can mention I have the Audio Technica ATH M50 (discontinued, now there are the ATH M50x) and the Beyerdynamic DT770 pro. I purchased the first to mix, but I use them very rarely to mix, as I prefer my monitors. The second ones are used for recording. They are closed and so the music hasn’t bleed with the mic. If your friend wants to mix with them, maybe it would be more advisable an open pair, like the DT990. But whatever the election, the better if the hp pair is in the proximity of 40 ohm. The Beyerdynamic are in different impedances to choose from.
Curiously, last week I purchased an used UR22 MKII and am waiting for it after shipping. I want it for a project with a friend.
Edit: I misunderstood the first post and thought your friend’s HPs were 600 ohm but now I see those are yours. Maybe the ones of your friend have high impedance too.
