Headphones output problems

I know this is more of a mac issue than Dorcio, and has been around for a long time, but for me, it only happens with Dorico. I frequently switch to headphones when working in D. I’ve learned to quit D, plug in hp and restart the project I’m working on. Even so, at least half the time I’ll spend 15+ minutes restarting D, restarting my MacBook, fiddling with audio settings in D and also my MacBook system settings.

After years of this, I still don’t know the exact sequence of events causing the audio engine to fail or what is happening. I’d love to know exactly what not to do to prevent this time waster.

Has anyone sorted this out?

Thanks for an amazing product, keep up the great work!

The audio engine needs a little time after dorico closed to shutdown. If you start dorico too early, things can get hung up.
Did you try waiting like 10-15s longer?

To clarify, you are saying quit dorico, wait 15-20 seconds, plug in hp, then restart dorico? I will try that. thanks

You should create an aggregate device in Audio Midi Setup and use that instead. There should be a post about that already.
