Click on it and drag it off the page. Or presss Shift-Alt-I.
I’m not talking about the red stop line. It’s the actual bar that I can’t seem to remove

Select the rest and do shift-B -1
AH !! that worked!! Thanks so much! will note the solution 
You can also active the system track (option-T on Mac) and click the trashcan that appears when you click on the track (it looks like a light grey bar above the staff). This is also a good way to delete a lot of bars at once, by shift-clicking on the system track.
