I don’t think it’s an issue with your WaveLab startup parameters.
I don’t see this message often but when I do, it’s usually from a very old audio file with weird parameters that WaveLab can’t automatically recognize, so that’s why it’s asking for your help with that.
Sometimes in these cases, another audio DAW like RX can open it and then you can re-save it as something more standardized.
If you’re getting this message while trying to open the file in the Audio Editor, my guess is that PG will request more info about the file…especially if dragging and dropping works but Import from the file menu does not work.
Open works, but it still doesn’t explain why Import doesn’t.
My issue isn’t about getting the file into Wavelab it’s about why doesn’t Import recognise any of my standard file headers. My other audio programs appear to read them OK.
I guess the question is, what are you trying to do with the file?
Listen to it? Edit it? Process it?
Either way, you “Open” the file in the Audio Editor.
Maybe PG can explain deeper as to why it was designed and laid out that way but I get the same pop-up when I try to “Import” a normal WAV file but if I use the “Open” menu, it opens in the Audio Editor and I can listen to it, edit it, etc.
Thats me. Old age creeping in, been using these things for years but I think Im now forgetting more than I remember. I recall your brain cells start dying from 40 on, so Ive had 27 years on the downward slope.
Thanks for your help Justin. Just got to see if I remember this next week.
The dialog you showed is when you click on “import unknown audio”. This is to open files that don’t have a standard header, or have no header at all, hence the term unknown.
In the software domain, Opening a file typically means loading it in its current format for direct viewing or editing, typically saving changes back to the original file, while importing a file brings it into the application, often converting or sometimes integrating it into a project without altering the original file.
