Thanks Phillipe
I had assumed by clicking the menu item under file - import in the top level menu at the top of the screen that i was going to be importing a file which existed on my volumes into wavelab. I didn’t actually click on unknown file type as a choice, that info was simply auto highlighted on the browser file selection window which opened. If i had selected import option from the file item in the wavelab screen itself and not the top down menu, i would have been more likely to pickup on the left to right sequence of the screen prompts. But my vision went from top menu import straight to browser select file so I missed it. Thats old school menu use for me.
What I didn’t pick up on was the highlight in browser selection window indicating that any file i selected was automatically going to be considered an unknown filetype so wavelab was going to auto ignore any file header in good files. Clearly why the special file format menu popped up as the third step.
My focus was on my intent to import a file and i don’t generally have corrupted files to search for. My more frequent use of import is in cubase so i was mentally ignoring the prompt of the unknown file on the left hand side of the browser window. Im usually pretty observant of screen changes / highlights etc. but I find I’m usually thrown these days with what i see as software choosing for me. For me it would be more useful to see the Import menu item refer to unknown file type instead of highlighting on the next screen.
