Help reinstalling everything dorico 5 related due to computer problem

My computer was rendered insecure due to hackers (and my failure), and my IT friend had to wipe my computer clean. Data was saved, but programs were not. I tried reinstalling Steinberg to get back to Dorico 5, but something is not working.

I have: Steinberg library, Steinberg activation manager, Steinberg Download manager, and Dorico 5, but I appear to be missing something. Any ideas?

What do you do; what happens when you do it; and what doesn’t happen that you expect to happen?

You’ve installed Dorico 5 and all its other components (HALion, Iconica, Groove Agent SE, etc) from the Download Manager?

You’ve signed in to your account in the Activation Manager?

Then what?

No, apparently components are missing.
I reach a window saying:

An essential component used by Dorico for playback has not been found. Please run the Steinberg Download Assistant and install the following:

HALion Sonic 7 – Instrument

HALion Sonic SE 3 – Content

Indian Drum Basics

Groove Agent SE 5 – Instrument

Groove Agent SE 5 –Content

Olympus Choir Micro

Iconica Sketch

HALion Symphony Orchestra

_______

Then when I run the download assistant, I get the following window:

Steinberg Download Assistant – Error

A connection to the download server could not be established.

Check your internet connection and try again.

Please note that all downloads are also available from the Steinberg web page
Open Steinberg Downloads page

Nothing app+ears to be wrong with my internet connection.

I can access the Downloads page, but the list there does not always match the list above

I am wondering if I did the download correctly to begin with. I went to download Dorico first, and I think some Steinberg came with it.

Maybe I should start over and do it right, with guidance from this site?

Download the latest version of the Download Assistant from the Steinberg Downloads page.

(There was a problem with older versions having an expired certificate.)

Then install everything from there.

Ok, I deleted the earlier downloads, which I probably did not do right. Then I downloaded Steinberg download assistant, and activation manager, library, and (I think) Media Bay. Used download assistant to download Dorico 5. Dorico still will not play, and I reach the same window mentioned above with the list of “essential components for playback”. In download assistant I see some of these available for download under the “All products (separate licenses required)” drop-down menu. Is that where I am supposed to go next?

No: as indicated, you’ll need additional licences for those . Only download the stuff in the D5 category

don’t know what you mean by “the Dorico 5 category”. All I saw to download was D5 itself. and it’s still missing those components. I don’t recall having to download them separately before; they came with D5.

And there is nothing in Steinberg Library Manager, if that helps.

If you click on Dorico 5 under My Products, you should see a bunch of things on the right.

The Library Manager won’t show anything until you install things from the Download Manager.

Okay, that worked, up to the point where Dorico still won’t do playback (the cursor won’t even move).

There is a small red triangle in the bottom right corner of Dorico. When the cursor hovers over it, a message says, “The audio device isn’t responding. Click to check the device and sample rate in Device Setup.”

In Device Setup, the ASIO driver is “Steinberg built in ASIO driver”. Nothing happens when I click on “Device Control Panel”. Stereo Output is blank and the drop down arrow does nothing. Sample rate is 800 and has a functioning drop down menu from its down arrow.

It appears something is quite wrong, because the Device Setup window should show options in the Device Control Panel and in Stereo Output. Don’t know if this is a problem with Dorico or with the computer interface to Dorico. Anyone know?

I suppose you have already restarted your computer and confirmed that the audio driver has been selected in the Device section.

I did restart it, and the audio driver in the Device section is Steinberg built in ASIO driver, which I gather is what it should be. But why does the Device Control Panel button not take me to a list of entries? Why is Stereo Output without an entries to choose from? And I gather that the sample rate should be more like 41000, not 800, so why is it 800?

If you’re using a Mac, try this:

Then go to Play → Playback Templates, select “Auto”, Apply and Close.

If the Sample Rate is 48000, that’s fine. Earlier when people were making audio CD’s, the sample rate for it was 44100 Hz. Nowadays when working with either video files or using different audio softwares (Logic, Pro Tools, Ableton Live…), the sample rate being used is 48000. Also the virtual instruments (sample libraries) are being recorded at 48000 Hz (48 kHz), that is why it’s perfectly OK to let it operate at 48000.

Don’t know what Logic is. Don’t have a Mac.

Logic is a DAW similar to Cubase prevalent on Apple OS’s.

@sholtzma, please do Help > Create Diagnostic Report from within Dorico, and attach the resulting zip file here.

Dorico Diagnostics.zip (285.4 KB)

Hi @sholtzma ,
the driver is correct, but it does not detect any output port with you.
But first try to set the sample rate to 44100 or 48000 Hz and then open the Device Control Panel, does then at least one (like e.g. Realtek) output port appear in the list.
Apart from Dorico, how is sound in general on your computer. Do you get sound playing, e.g. system sounds or media player? Do you have a separate, external audio device or a built-in sound chip like Realtek?
