HELP! VST Audio system Device failed to open! (MAC)

After installing the latest update to Cubase 6 I find I am unable to use it because I get the following message in my Device Setup: ‘VST Audio System - Device failed to open!’

I am also finding that my (legitimate) ProTools 9 , Sibelius 7 and Reason are all unable to link properly with Core Audio.

After installing Cubase 6.5.4, I also installed an Apple software update: Java for Mac OS X 10.6 update v. 10.0

  • could this be the source of the problem?

Any suggestions very welcome - I am in the middle of projects

Try to Repair Disk Permission of your system HDD, from the Disk Utilities.

Try to update driver of your audio interface. Which one do you use? Are you using 32-bit or 64-bit Cubase/Pro Tools/Sibelius?

Repairing disk permissions didn’t help, but I uninstalled and reinstalled Cubase 6 and then the 6.4.0 update and it appears to be OK now.

MAJOR ALERT!!! to any newbies reading this thread.

‘NEVER EVER’ update/upgrade anything soft/hardware while
still having on going projects.

Finish all current work first!
