I just purchased VST Live Pro, installed version 1.0.2. After trying to run the program, the splash screen ends at ‘initializing application…’ and then just quits. So I’ve yet to even get into the program. I’ve tried reinstalling a few times and that didn’t fix it.
I run Dorico and Cubase no problem for a long time, never had an issue. Please help.
I should add I’m on Windows 10. And yes, it is activated through SAM.
First guess is to deactivate (temporarily rename) your VST3 directory, most probably there is a plugin causing problems when VST Live scans it. I take you haven’t activated VST2 yet, otherwise the same applies.
It should not be neccessary for VST Live to be equipped with administrator rights, but possibly some plugins require that (they shouldn’t, though).
I renamed program files>common files> VST2 and VST3 folders and in program files(x86)>common files> VST3 folder. In case it matters I just called them RENAME 2 or RENAME 3.
Anyhow, still didn’t run. The splash screen checks license (about 8 sec.), then says ‘initializing audio system’ really quickly as well as a few other things I can’t see, then ‘initializing application…’ for about 2 seconds and then quits.
I read in a very recent post about someone else having plug in issues and you mentioned a 1.0.3 version? Maybe that was a typo? I only see 1.0.2 on Steinberg download manager. That post also mentioned being able to not scan plug ins when loading, but to check that box you need to actually get into the program first. I can’t even do that yet…
I also reinstalled VL after renaming the folders in case that changed anything. It didn’t.
Do you have that file?
C:\Users\ Your_Username\AppData\Roaming\Steinberg\VST Live.ini
Do you have that folder?
C:\Users\ Your_Username\Documents\VSTLive
Could you please rename the file and/or folder? Does it help?
Have you installed VL with the SDA? Are you running your Windows system with a special rights? Admin, users, …? Has your “Your_Username” special characters?
Thank you for the response. Hope this helps with next step:
Do you have that file?
C:\Users\ Your_Username\AppData\Roaming\Steinberg\VST Live.ini
*No, I do not have that file there. Only various Steinberg program folders in C:\Users\ Your_Username\AppData\Roaming\Steinberg. There is a folder with VST Live_64 there and only a vst3plugins file in it.
Do you have that folder?
C:\Users\ Your_Username\Documents\VSTLive There is no folder by that name there.
Could you please rename the file and/or folder? Does it help? Did not have either of those. I did default install and did not change any locations when it installed. Might they be somewhere else?
Have you installed VL with the SDA? Are you running your Windows system with a special rights? Admin, users, …? Has your “Your_Username” special characters? Yes, I installed with Steinberg Download Assistant. I am not running any special rights, I am the only user of this computer. My user name has only letters in it, no special characters.
Sorry for the cut and paste… I didn’t reply directly to Spork so not sure if he got the message.

I’ve been in contact with Spork, I’m hoping to hear from him soon with more steps to try.
Having read a post where someone else had crashes on startup, I installed 1.0.31.589 and I still have not been able to even get into the program. It didn’t work for me, keeps crashing on ‘Initialising program…’
Thank you Spork, your solution worked for me. If anyone else has this issue try installing the latest version of Asio4all at asio4all.org. Worked for me and I got to the home page.
