Help with fixing bar misalignment after MusicXML import in Dorico 5

Both Marc and I use PhotoScore Ultimate. It has not been updated for a number of years, so we guess development has stopped. It certainly can handle most notations (except nested tuplets)

It has its problems, so is hard to recommend, but having invested, I’m reluctant to switch to another without clear evidence of advantages elsewhere.

I now know how to fix the problems it throws up very quickly and faced with a new file can tell whether it will be quicker to use the PhotoScore route or simple enter directly in Dorico. But I guess it would be very frustrating to the newcomer.

Than you. I think this proves the importance of using a good Optical Music Recognition (OMR).

I did use Newzik to generate the MusicXML file. Interestingly, I was drawn to it after watching Dorico’s YouTube channel. I wasn’t aware that its XML export capabilities were somewhat limited.

For annotations and organizing scores and manual score rewriting as a performer, I use PiaScore.

I’ve been using Newzik since it came out (around 2020) and I’ve never been really fond of their recognition feature. Really, you should give PlayScore 2 a try. (sorry, I did not write the name of the app because I had forgotten it and then the family took all my brains!!!)

As @k_b has shown, it’s way more efficient than Newzik…

Thanks both. I also have it since 2020. I like it as a library to save full score and parts etc. but as said the xml generation has not improved since 2020 despite their claim to use AI. Not very clever at learning this AI

PlayScore 2 is a subscription app with one week’s free trial ( not for iPad). In my first attempt, when I imported, it didn’t go beyond bar 16!! Here is what produced! But after some adjustment, it did a much better job!

Personally, I don’t like subscription based! So I am stick with Newzik and Dorico for now. Thank you.

If this happens (usually because of some tuplets or an unclear meter change) I just do a further scan, starting from that spot directly. It is effortless and works wonders

I understand you don’t like subscription stuff. Me neither (and I have already invested in Photoscore). But the results with this tool are better than Newzik (until they decide to make it better).

Newzik has also become a subscription based tool for those who didn’t have had the luck to buy it very early… So they might improve the tool.
