That was a long explanation for something that only works as you say “for Steinberg´s best interests.”
Sorry, but it is simply common sense for a company to work for the client´s best interests,
instead of locking the clients out of a product so often, as it does, and literally wasting hours of their time.
If Dorico wasn´t such an awesome piece of software I would have dumped it a very long time ago beacuse of the e-licenser people so eagerly defend.
Btw. I do understand that if Steinberg is working on “changing the system” it will probably take time.
Being a German company, they probably need to fill 1000 government forms to even get started.
I know by experience, live here, and own a company.
If I were a betting man I’d wager this is 100% the reason why. The dev team was hired by Steinberg, so their software (and even the documentation style assiduously maintained by @Lillie_Harris ) has to play by steinberg’s rules.
Fwiw-people freak out about this dongle, but I don’t understand it. Between my various pieces of software and samples sets, I have no fewer than three dongles which contain some 12-15 licenses between them. People act like Steinberg is the only company that does this. They aren’t. Not by a long shot.
This will be my last comment on any of these tiring dongle threads, but it has been promised over and over again that this system is going away, and, it seems, it will do so with D4, since they are actively coding the replacement system now. Daniel recently revealed that two of the dorico team members are intimately involved in developing the new system right this very minute. So this isn’t just some pie in the sky talk. There are boots on the ground laboring to make this happen.
no I can’t, I can’t find that action and the delete key doesn’t work. Its on my HDD bc it was the free trial version. Strange I can’t remove licenses from the elicenser program
well the item is certainly there although it may be greyed out as you can see from the screenshot.
As it happens, I had to remove the license from an expired Cubase trial earlier today. My registered version temporarily pretended it was unlicensed until after restarting it. I could not remove the trial license on the dongle either but after restarting eLicenser and rerunning maintenance tasks, the license went automatically.
I would be the last to pretend that the eLicenser is the most reliable piece of software ever designed but I have always found that with a little patience (assuming it’s not on one of its increasingly regular outages) that you can normally get what you want
