I have hidden the noteheads for a glissando line and when I print it, it leaves a white out area where the noteheads were.
The better way to hide a note is to Hide notehead and Hide stem, and if necessary Hide ledger lines in the property pane.
I ran into this as well today, I was going to start a new topic but then I found this one.
What I found is that hidden noteheads create a white space when I print directly to paper. The white space does not show up when I export to PDF (using the Graphics option) and it’s not present in the print preview either.
I made sure this is not caused by a printer hardware malfunction. When I export to PDF and then print from the PDF, there is no white space either. In my case it’s a hidden grace note, I hid the notehead through the option in the Properties panel as @meixner said (I wouldn’t know how to hide it otherwise). It’s not specific to one project.
Is there a printer setting of some sort that might be causing this (I’m on Windows 10, Dorico 5.1.7)? It’s a relatively minor thing and I can work around it by exporting to PDF before printing, but it’s rather odd.
That is indeed very strange. When you hide a notehead using the Hide notehead property, it is simply not drawn when printing, unless you have the View options option in the Annotations section of the options panel on the right-hand side in Print mode.
You definitely used the Hide notehead property, rather than using the Color property?
Yeah I’m sure I used Hide notehead, I never touched the Color settings. I attached a mockup, when I print the part layout from this project directly to paper I get the white spot, but not when exporting to PDF. View options in the Print mode right hand panel is unchecked (never touched that either).

Very strange indeed. Your project prints fine here. I assume you are also using the options on the right-hand side in Print mode to print, rather than the OS print dialog in the bottom left-hand corner?
Yes, I’m using the right hand panel to print… I have no OS print dialog in the bottom left-hand corner (is that a Mac vs. Windows thing?) . I’ll try to tinker with my printer settings over the weekend to see if I can find anything that has an effect in this. My printer is a black & white only laser printer (Brother DCW1610).
