Hide notes and rests but hear them

Good evening, I’d like to mute some foot-played hi-hats on beats 2 and 4 and the rests on 1 and 3, but still be able to hear them.
Thanks for your help

You can hide notes and still hear them in the playback: select them, and in Engrave Mode, in the Properties Panel, in the Note and Rests section, switch on Hide stem and Hide notehead (possibly also hide ledger lines if any.)

As for the rests, select them, Edit menu > Remove rests.

However, removing rests can sometimes change the horizontal spacing depending on the other notes in the bar. If you don’t want the spacing to change, select the rests and, instead of removing them: in the Properties panel, set their color to transparent (Alpha Channel 0 on Windows).

Thank you Charles_piano for your reply

  1. Select only the notes,

  2. Check “Hide stems”

  3. and noteheads in the properties in burn-only mode (then deselect the noteheads to see the result; otherwise, they remain displayed but not the stems…?!)

  4. Delete the rests in the edit menu…

Wow…! I’ll try to see if we can make a macro :joy:

Remove rests is a function that’s very often used, and I think many of us have assigned it a shortcut.

And to hide notes/stems/ledger lines, you can record a macro (I’ve done that too!) and trigger it from the jump bar — or assign it a shortcut, though that’s a bit more complicated.

Thank you very much for your responsiveness and your answers.
