Hide really long instrument names

hi friends, is there any way to hide this monstrously long list of instruments in a player in Galley view… so that I can see the notes hidden beneath it?

short of zooming out, I haven’t found other alternatives… thank you!

much obliged…

As it appears that the Player name (in the left panel in Setup mode) can accept end-of-line characters if they are pasted in, try the following.

Highlight the player name which, in your case, is Maracas, Vibraphone, Glockenspiel, Crash Cymbal, Tuned Gongs, Tam-tam

Copy the selection and paste it into a word processing document.
What you should see is:
Maracas, Vibraphone, Glockenspiel, Crash Cymbal, Tuned Gongs, Tam-tam

Insert an end-of-line character (Enter or Return) before each instrument so that the list now looks like this:
Maracas,
Vibraphone,
Glockenspiel,
Crash Cymbal,
Tuned Gongs,
Tam-tam

Copy all of that and paste it back into the Player name.

With any luck, the instrument names for that player should now be stacked vertically in Galley view, rather than stretching horizontally. The list of instruments will probably completely obscure the first bar in that staff, so it is really just shifting the problem from one area to another, but it might help with what you need.

Another approach might be to severely abbreviate what is in the Player name, to make the horizontal list shorter. For example: Mar.Vib.Glk.CrCym.TG.T-t

Or just rename the player to “Perc” or “Perc 1” “Perc 2” etc if you have multiple percussionists. The name of the relevant instrument is always shown after the player name anyway.

By default, if you haven’t already renamed the corresponding part layout, renaming a player also updates the layout name. You can change both and also reset them as and when you need.
