My client wants the metronome marking to show in the score but not in the parts. I found a thread on the forum from 2019 and there was no easy solution at that time. Has this changed since then? Using Dorico Pro on a Mac.

Hi, I think this can be easily achieved by using the property panel and ticking the visibility of metronome mark and text shown.
I’ll just check this myself… 
I just checked, and even having set the property to Local, the Metronome mark disappears completely if set to not be shown in one of the layouts.
At the moment I am not aware of a workaround - except for using a Shift-X text instead. You would need a font, that can display notes symbols (like MuseGlyphs).
Thank you for trying kb. I really appreciate it. It seems there is no easy solution, but I will try the work-around so that it looks correct visually.
There’s an option in Layout Options, under Tempo, to hide metronome marks. Untick that for the parts and have it checked in the score. (This works, assuming you also have text for the tempos, and not only metronome markings.)
Wow Rikard, I’ve learnt something new today.
I guess as text an empty space would suffice to be able for this to work.

Use a space character as text for the metronome mark, put it here. You can’t see the space character in the screenshot, but it is there:
Check the mentioned Option in the Score layout:
Uncheck that Option in the part layout. Done…
wait, the metronome mark is still showing in the part? You will have to tick the “Text shown” property: and the metronome mark has vanished - in the part only
