Hide staff line etc, only beamed flag remain

Hi Everyone,

is it possible for Dorico to hide staff lines and rests, noteheads + stem, but the beam flag and barline remain visible? Here is done in Musescore, just wondering if there’s a workaround in DORICO 6.

Hi,

It’s not very easy, but it’s doable.

For staves without lines, you can download the Zero-line staff by @FredGUnn

For the beams without stems, and to hide the rests without changing the horizontal space, you can for example use these tricks:

Then with some text/music text, staccato notes with hidden noteheads, and a bit of tweaking in Engrave Mode:

Maybe you could create notehead sets with numbers/letters, but since the values don’t seem to be related to the rhythm, I’m not sure.

I’m so grateful for this. Could you please explain how to create notehead sets in Dorico?

It’s a bit complicated to explain precisely! Have you looked at this chapter of the manual?

It would also help to know exactly what you want to do. From your screenshot, the numbers don’t seem to correspond to any particular rhythmic values, right? So you would rather have different number‑style noteheads (say from 1 to 5) that you can apply case by case, regardless of the rhythmic value?

it is connected with notes and actually playable .. I made a video here

Do you mean that the numbers correspond to the pitches? That would be possible, but I don’t think they could be horizontally aligned — they would behave (up/down) like normal notes. I just did a quick try with C-D-E-F displaying 1-2-3-4 in a 0-line staff and hidden stems:

Or maybe it would be possible to adjust the vertical position of each notehead so they always sit on the same horizontal position, but that would get complicated! Or maybe with a percussion instrument and different playing techniques with different noteheads for each, on the same line?

I think users who know more about noteheads than I do will be able to tell you!
