Hide tablature clef

The tools I’ve found for hiding clefs per system (using an invisible clef or using the “hide” option in the lower zone) don’t seem to work on guitar tablature.

Being able to customize the TAB clef(s) would be helpful. Some Dulcimer arrangements use the string tunings as their clef.

Cameron, we have an option on the Clefs page of Engraving Options that allows you to specify whether the tab clef should appear only on the first system. Does that meet your requirement?

Thanks, that’s a helpful workaround. But being able to hide the clef per system would be ideal.

Can you say a bit more about the circumstances under which you do and don’t want the clef to appear? I assume you’re working on some kind of exercises or instructional material?

In general you can’t hide things that live in the fixed “preamble” at the start of the system, so it would be helpful to understand your requirements. What is it that leads you to sometimes need the clef, and sometimes not?

As a workaround you could use the option Daniel mentioned:

then create a Playing technique with the TAB glyph

and then place it, where needed (there seems to be enough room for it):

Also, if you want to suppress the TAB key altogether (maybe for usage with the above mentioned technique), you can redefine the TAB clef by deleting it’s content in the Music Symbols… editor.

I’m making tab for youtube videos. Sometimes I want an entire system onscreen, so the clef is fine.

But sometimes I want a single measure with some white space around it. For the single measures, I create a system with just that measure on it, which I’d like the clef not to be on. Then I export as pdf and crop it in Photoshop before bringing it into my video editor.

The way I did this with Finale was I’d create a blank (cutaway) measure before and after the measure in question, but as far as I know there’s not a way to do that with Dorico.

I would do this with Graphic Slices, and - if really needed - give it some (white) padding in the receiving program

Thanks, I didn’t know about slices and that cuts way down on the amount of work.
