How do I eliminate the pause of the voice highlighted in the attached screenshot?

To hide the rest (“pause”?) highlighted, select it (as you have above) and in Write mode use Edit > Remove Rests to conceal the rest symbol.

If you come across this regularly, it will be worthwhile to assign Remove Rests a keyboard shortcut in Preferences.
