Hiding chord symbols in multi-bar repeats, and having multi-bar groups Engrave properly

Trying to print my first arrangement, and having 2 issues caused by or related to using multi-bar rests.

  1. Guitar part has a 2-bar pattern which repeats two more times, then a different pattern. I deleted the content of measures 4-7 and created a pair of 2-bar repeats. But they do not need the chord symbols, which just clutter the chart. I tried deleting the chords in the Guitar part, but they disappeared from all rhythm parts (sigh), so I had to re-enter them. I tried deleting them in Engrave, without success. I assume there must be be a way of hiding them in repeated measures, but could not find a feed on that.
  2. In Engrave, the Guitar part is 1 bar longer than 2 pages, because the last line on page 2 is a full-stave-width second measure of a 2-bar repeat (the previous stave has the 2-bar pattern and 1+1/2 of the 2-bar repeats, the second measure of the 2-bar repeat refuses to move up to the stave above. There is plenty of room as far as I can tell.
  3. The piano lead sheet runs 3 full pages, possibly because of the lyrics (?). 2-page chart would be preferred for a lot of reasons. Requesting best practises for condensing parts that contain lyrics down to fewer pages… remove most of the lyrics and only leave cues? smaller font size? Putting more staves and less white space on each page? All of the above? I have been able to find a lot of tutorials on Setup and Write mode, but not very many on Engrave & Print modes

Still no luck in 1. hiding rests in 2-bar repeats in a guitar part; or 2. moving the second half of a 2-bar rest up one stave to be with its other half (which will get the part onto 2 pages, not 2 pages plus a bar). Please help

  1. Easiest way that I know to hide those chords would be to select them and in the lower zone mark them as hidden. (If you’re unfamiliar with the lower zone, hit the small arrow at the bottom of the window to bring it up.)
  2. There are many ways to deal with this (I suggest you examine the various spacing and size options under Layout Options), but the quick way to manually move something to a previous staff is to in Engrave mode select something and hit the “Move to Previous System” button.

I leave number three for someone else to answer. (Or did you solve that yourself? I don’t really understand your second post.)

Hi Rikard. Thank you. Regarding question 3, I find that adding lyrics greatly spreads out the note layout, reducing the number of bars per staff, causing the part to go over too many pages. I was looking for suggestions on making the lyrics less invasive on note spacing, so parts could be more compact.
