Hiding Duplicate Instrument Names

In an orchestral score, when you have two instruments the same, the instrument name appears once on the left of each stave like this:

Flute 1

Flute 2

How can I make the score less cluttered and have the instrument names showing with ‘1’ to the left of the first flute stave, ‘2’ showing to the left of the 2nd flute stave, and the word ‘Flutes’ appearing only once, between the two numbers and slightly to the left.

(I’d upload little diagrams, but this forum board won’t let me.)
