Hi all, I’m currently writing a jazz chart and I’m working on polishing the layout of the chord symbols. For the horn parts, I’d like to have the chord symbols appear during the solo section and nowhere else. By default, the symbols either always appear or never appear. I could select every chord I want hidden individually and hide it (with the lower panel), but that would take a long time. I know about the mass selection of chord changes through the “filter” feature when selecting, but this only selects all the chord symbols in all the parts, rather than in just the horn parts like I want.
Is there a way to select all of the chord symbols in a stave in a select number of measures so I can then hide them? This is actually quite easy in the individual parts, since there is only one stave so the “filter” method works. However how can it be done in the score with many parts?
Have you looked at chord symbol regions?

This appears to be what I’m looking for, thanks. However, when I try inputting a chord symbol region into one of my horn parts (by typing “reg” into the chord symbols popover as instructed while selecting the desired region), nothing happens. Is this because my selected region has slash notation? Also, what chord symbols setting should my part be on (“show for all instruments” or “show for rhythm section only”)?
I don’t use chord symbols much, but it looks to me like reg
in the popover won’t work if you already have a chord symbol at the location where you want the region to begin. In this case, you can either start the region on the first beat that doesn’t have a chord and then extend the region backwards by dragging its endpoint, or you can use Write > Create Chord Symbol Region.
As the help file indicates, adding a chord symbol region automatically changes that player to show chord symbols in chord symbol regions and slash regions.
You mentioned in your second post that these players have slash notation in the areas where you want chords to show. If these are actually slash regions, then it would actually be sufficient to change the player setting to show in chord symbol regions and slash regions, and you’ll get the chord symbols there for free.
