I have three Percussion parts in a score, each with two instruments: Perc. 1 (Snare Drum/Bass Drum), Perc. 2 (Crash Cymbals/Concert Toms) & Perc. 3 (Sus. Cymbal/Cabasa).
For Perc. 1, I want rests to appear for the individual instrument where necessary. And if the player doesn’t play for a whole measure, I would like to display a whole rest. I have it properly showing this in Perc. 1. My setting in Notation Options/Percussion are:
The problem is in the Perc. 2 & 3 parts. For these, I don’t always want to show whole rests, yet they are showing due to the above configuration. And selecting Edit>Remove Rests doesn’t seem to work for these parts. So for example, in the part below, I don’t want to show the whole rests in mm. 2-3, 6-7, 18-19, etc. I don’t understand why but in measures 27 and following, Dorico didn’t put rests above the Sus. Cym. (this is what I want). So how does one remove or hide rests in the perc. part? If I change the Notation Options settings, it affects the Perc. 1 part too.
I’m not sure why it behaves like that. In susp cymb and cabasa, the only way I found was to select all the cabasa notes, right-click->Percussion->Change Voice->Extra Downstem voice to get the rests for the cymbal. Then had to change the rest position in the properties panel. The cabasa rests when the cymbal is playing. I could set the color opacity to zero to hide them. Off topic: I think you would be better off creating an empty percussion kit and adding the suspended cymbal and cabasa, instead of using a full drum kit. Sorry, I could not be of more help.
Thanks for the help. I do not want rests when the cabana is playing; you are correct. I just wanted to remove the rests for the cabasa when the Sus. Cym. is playing as they too are not necessary. I like your opacity idea. The issue now is, when I lower the rests for the sus. cym. back down to the mid-line (-4), the whole rests that have zero opacity still show a ledger line. Not sure why that is. See below. Any way to hide those?
I need to lower the rests for the Sus. Cymbal, not the ones for the Cabasa which are now hidden. The cabana rests (which are hidden) are forcing the cymbal rests to be raised.
Related to this, is there a way to select all of the rests pertaining to a specific instrument, i.e. filter? In this case all of the cabasa rests? The only way I know to do it is to individually select each rest, or grab as many as I can with the mouse. I wish you could select rests for an entire region or piece the way you can with notes.
