How can I hide the rest in the upper staff pickup measure?
Hello Siggi,
you can do so with the command „remove rests“.
Hmm… this doesn’t work for me. What am I missing?
In the layout options I did deactivate “Show bar rests in empty bars” thus having a really empty staff line to add notes by hand writing (e.g.). Dorico does however display that quarter rest in the pickup measure of which I can’t get rid off.
When I enter some notes in the first measure of the upper staff the “remove rests” command can by applied, but after deleting these notes, the rest returns.
Of course, the rest could be moved outside the staff lines and set to white, but this not really a solution, isn’t it?
I you show bar rests again, you can select the first one, then tick starts voice in the properties panel. Then you can hide the bar rests again. Not sure why remove rests doesn’t work.

In that case, you could select the quarter rest in the pickup bar, Shift+B, type rest
Neat trick – that actually puts a bar rest in the pickup bar, which then gets hidden by Layout Options!
Thanks to all of you for your fine ideas.
Maybe give the solution mark to the posts from @jesele or @charles_piano, rather than your own?
