Hiding vs removing rests

When trying to notate music in such a way that individual voices can be recognized, there is sometimes a resulting clutter. I am trying to follow guitar conventions but sometimes I prefer not having excessive rests in the notation.

I removed a rest in the second measure. I cannot figure out how to bring it back. So I created another measure behind it, copied it, and then tried to erase the second measure hoping that the third measure would just substitute. However, when I erase that second measure, the third measure takes on the characteristics of the second measure before erasure. It is missing the rest, but additionally, it flips the bass.

Any thoughts?

When you remove rests, you actually set the properties ‘Ends voice’ and ‘Starts Voice’ on surrounding notes in that voice. Select the last note before the removed rest and switch that property off. The rest will reappear.
