I often write music for stringed instrument beginners. There are some conventions there for having small arrows above or besides the fingering to indicate whether the finger should be high or low (compared to the usual ionic tetrachord they usually learn first). Does Dorico support this?

Not exactly. I’ve built little arrows as Playing Techniques, and then I have to do a little fiddling in Engrave mode to nudge the arrows left and the fingerings right.
