High hat playback in Groove Agent

In a big band medium swing chart (imported XML file from Finale), I’ve been asked by a publisher to write out the drum set part rather than slashes and cues. I’m finding that if I input a high hat note on the assigned space on the staff, the playback sounds like a pair of sticks hitting together rather than a drummer closing the high hats with his left foot. If I add the “closed” symbol found in unpitched percussion playing techniques it sounds fine. Do I really need to put in the closed symbol for every note I want this for on the entire drum part?

In a related question, I’ve input the scraping symbol for the snare drum with accents on 2 & 4 for the right hand. When I play it back it just sounds like quarter notes. How do I get it to sound like “stirring the soup”?

I have not watched this video, but generally Anthony is the expert here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xHYe18HCvY

Thanks for the link. That video addressed different high hat sounds only; I’m looking for how to get a brush scrape sound (“stirring the soup”) for a medium swing jazz big band chart drum set part, using Groove Agent as my VST library. One would think that the playback sound would match the playing technique once it’s entered into the score, like a staccato, slur, etc. but it doesn’t in this case.

Thanks for trying to help!

I think you would need bespoke samples - the reason is the wave form produced by the “stirring” would be completely different from normal strikes. . I don’t think I have seen them in Groove Agent, but you could try making something using Media Bay samples if something suitable is there. It’s a bit involved and I have never tried it.

Thanks!
