High & Low pass

hi,i am going thru tutorials in computer music mag. its regarding eq.im using the channel eq in cubase.
when they say"high pass at 3kHz" does that mean i select eq 4 and one of the high shelfs?
and if im eqing a kick and they say" set the first band to high pass filter around 50Hz" does that mean i select eq 1 and one of the high pass types?

Hi,
A high pass is a low cut and a low pass is a high cut.

when they say"high pass at 3kHz"

Set the first band of the eq to “High Pass” and the EQ Band 1 frequency to 3kHz.

and they say" set the first band to high pass filter around 50Hz"

Set the first band of the eq to “High Pass” and the EQ Band 1 frequency to 50Hz.

No, a high shelf is not a high pass…
If you actually look at the EQs a little bit yourself, you´ll find the high passes in EQ Band 1, as also mentioned in the 2nd part of your question.

Yes

thanks.
