Horizontal lines not staying in place

Hello there!

I’ve been having this problem with horizontal lines stacked on top of other items. The problem is that when I go to engrave mode (on global properties) and change the order of the items (to line first and text on top), it works great. But when you also offset items in other instruments it makes the position of the one you fixed first move.

I attached a project to this post, and in it, if you go to the violin I part and fix one of the line collisions on page 4, and then do the same in Violin II, when you return to Violin I everything you did is undone.

I imagine this must be because of Dorico’s autoformatting, but is there a better way of doing this where things that you offset, always stay in place?

I’m on Dorico 4 btw.

Thanks for the help in advance!

I’m afraid there’s some inherent instability in the ordering of these items at the same position, in particular the “arco” and “slight overpressure” playing techniques. There’s no perfect solution for this, but here’s what I’d suggest:

– Hide the “arco” playing technique, and add a Shift+X text item to stand in for it, with the Avoid collisions property deactivated
– Set the Placement property for all your wedge lines to Below the staff, then drag them up above the staff.

Once you then move the items independently in Engrave mode, you should find that they stay put more happily.
