I’m entering a part for Horn in B-flat basso, sounding an octave plus a major second lower than the written pitch. The name in the Dorico instrument definition appears simply as Horn (Bb), which is ambiguous, because horns can also be in B-flat alto, sounding an octave higher than that.
I went into the instrument name panel, turned off “show transposition”, and entered myself “Horn (line break) B{@flat@} basso”. But that window does not recognize the {@flat@} notation. I also cannot right click in that window and enter music text. Any idea how to do this?
Here is a flat symbol that you can copy/paste in the name editor:
♭
If you’re on Windows, you get it by typing Alt+9837 in a word processor like MS Word (this one doesn’t work directly in Dorico, unlike other Alt+)
It might also be possible with Unicode ( U+266D) but I’m not sure how it works.

Type 266D and then press Alt/Opt+X, and Dorico will convert the code point to the character.
Make sure you apply the Music Text character style to the flat sign after entering it.
