It’s mainly because:
a) we were hoping for a GUI overhaul which is always nice
b) El Capitan was such a pain in the neck and bloated whale that we were hoping the new stripped down, lean Sierra would make our computers run faster
c) Ultimately, if we don’t, eventually our online banking will stop working
