How can I add dynamic in “<>” within one quarter beat? Is it impossible? The music will be mp, mf then f. Is there any way to do it? Thanks!
Does selecting the note, opening the Dynamics popover (Shift+D), and entering <> work?
What do you mean by this? Wouldn’t it be a small-large-small dynamic?
You can add a prefix and a suffix to your dynamics in the properties panel, using <
: and >
Or create a Playing Technique if you prefer the < and > to be glyphs, or even if you like it with text but need to often use it:
Thank you for your suggestion. However, is it impossible to do it using dynamic only? Thanks!
It is possible but I would say that for this kind of situation, using normal hairpins (i.e. dynamics, with the caret) isn’t ideal, because the spacing will be affected. In Dorico, hairpins have a defined rhythmic position — they’re not just graphical elements. So Dorico creates room for them (which is great in most cases!)
Here, I placed the first one starting a 8th before the note and the second ending a 8th after, and as you can see, the spacing is not good.
Even worse with a 32nd before/after:
Sorry - I think you need to do this with the caret active, with a small rhythmic grid resolution in order to place the dynamics exactly where you want them.
