How can I condense staves with player name?

Here’s what I want to do in my Dorico project: two cl players have to play both A and Bb cl during this piece, so I want to point this out in the first page.

What I’ve done is change the player name to “Clarinet in A / B♭”, used the player name in the first page in the Layout Option, then condensed.

The result isn’t what I’ve expected:

However, my expected result is this:

How can I reach this result? Thanks a lot!

One way is to use instrument names instead of player names and set the instrument names for the full names like below for both players. It might mess with the instrument change labels, though. Far from ideal. Someone else might have a better suggestion.

Clarinets.dorico (652.6 KB)

Not showing transposition for the full name.

My 2¢:

  • For the conductor the first label containing both instruments is confusing (and pointless) because you have to check the key signature which instrument plays first. If the score is in concert pitch the information is even ambiguous.
  • For the player it’s sufficient to put the information in the layout name e.g. Clarinet 1 in A/B♭and the transposition information at the beginning of the piece / movement.

I agree.
