When I create a Kontakt instance it is placed on a stereo track, no matter what kind of bus it is routed to.
If I want to use an ambisonic insert on that track it means that I must route the output to an ambisonic group, then put the insert on that group track.
If I want to use ambisonic inserts on many independent VSTis, that means a lot of redundant group channel setups, effectively doubling the channel count. How can I get a VSTi to initiate on an ambisonics channel instead?

You can add multi outputs for the instrument track. But as far as I know, you cannot create a surround instrument track by itself.
