How can i ( easily = efficiently ) change the Zoom level?

How do i ( easily = efficiently ) change the Zoom level?

( without having to navigate to that 1 px wide zoom lever that no one can hit the first time )

I have tried several key combinations with mousewheel but seems to only work horizontal
