How can I enlarge the default size of circle x noteheads without changing percussion techniques?

I want to have circle x noteheads on the ledger line above the staff in my drum parts (to represent a crash cymbal), but the circle x notehead default size is so small that the “x” is illegible over the ledger line. I have discovered that I can create my own larger circle x notehead in the notehead sets library; however, it seems that dorico wants me to create a unique instrument and/or playing technique for these noteheads in the percussion kit, when all I want to do is change the default that is already there (the “natural” technique). How can I have a larger notehead appearance without changing the percussion kit? (Incidentally, I also tried increasing the scale of the notehead in the properties panel, but this enlarges the ledger line and the laissez vibrer tie along with the notehead.) If there is no way to change the default size, can someone walk me through the entire process of custom notehead creation, drum kit playing techniques, and notehead selection? I find it extremely confusing.
