how can I find the plugin causing cubase to crash on close?

is there anyway to identify the plugin that is causing cubase to crash when closing a project?

Go to your VSTPlugins folder(s)
Rename it/them to VSTPluginsX
If you start Cubase now non of them will load.
Create an empty folder called VSTPlugins
shoot from the hip and divide the *.dll fils and folders approximately in two halves
Drop one half of the plugins into the newly created VSTPlugins folder
Start Cubase and … Quit again!

If Cubase quits as it should then the problem plugin is in the other halves
Divide the remaining half in half and drop that into the VSTPlugins folder
Start and quit

If Cubase quits as it should then the problem plugin is in the other halves
Divide the remaining half in half and drop that into the VSTPlugins folder
Start and quit

If Cubase quits as it should then the problem plugin is in the other halves
Divide the remaining half in half and drop that into the VSTPlugins folder
Start and quit

And if Cubase doesn’t quit as it should … yeah, just guess!

This is an amazingly fast method of finding stuff and it’s kind of the opposite of the famous story about the man who had helped some maharadja in India with something and all ha asked for was a grain of rice on a chess board at A1, 2 grains at B1, 4 at C1 … and only 9223372036854775808 at H8 :open_mouth:

If you’re unlucky there is more than one problem plugin … :stuck_out_tongue:

When closing a project, or when closing any project?
Ulf’s method for the latter.
If the former, just make a list of the plugins actually used in the project, then use that “half” method to remove them, then relaunch Cubase and reload the Project, until you find the culprit.

let us know which plug it was when you find out.
