How do I insert blank measures at the the beginning (or elsewhere), for example to add an intro?

Welcome to the forum @Donald_Prorak .
Shift-B 1 will insert one bar before what’s selected.
(Shift-B 8 = 8 bars etc… and Shift-B -8 will delete 8 bars )
Or you can use the right panel.
