You need to enter all of them in on staff first (Upper or lower). Then select the notes you want to cross-staff and hit m or n.
You need to have a grand staff of course.

N is “up” (think North) and M is “down” (even if it doesn’t stand for South–for folks in Europe, “Mediterranean” perhaps?)
