How do I Change Colors for Multiple Selected Tracks... Again

Hello everyone. I’m really sorry to be asking about this topic again, but I just can’t get my head around this. It should be the most obvious thing in the world and I can’t get Cubase to do it reliably.

I just want to select a bunch of tracks and change the color of all selected tracks at once. Plain and simple. And yes, I’ve read many forum posts regarding this subject but I still can’t get this to work consistently.

I’ve uploading two very short videos of me trying to do this, one of the through the Mix Console, the other using the Project area. None of the methods work. I have zero events on the project, so no events are selected (because I know that’s a thing).

Can anybody please tell me what I’m doing wrong? Either I’m really stupid or I can’t find any logic in Cubase’s behaviour when it comes to acting on multiple selected objects.

I would really appreciate any help with this because I’ve wasted hours trying to understand the behaviour and I still don’t get it.

(I’m trying to re-build my Studio One template in Cubase so please ignore the bottom section of the screen, it’s just Studio One in the background).

Thanks,

Miguel Barrosa

I think the problem is, there is a selection somewhere, so your colorpicker would only react to coloring events not tracks, the line “Set Event color to Track Color” at the bottom and “colorize selected events” at the top of the color picker is an indicator for this.
Go to Edit-Menu–> Select –> None, then try again.

The Color Picker should read “Set Track Color to default” and “colorise selected tracks” now

I can’t play back the videos. Here is the general procedure:

  1. In the Project window, deselect all events or parts.
  2. Select the tracks that you want to colorize.
  3. On the Project window toolbar, select Select Color for Selected Tracks or Events.

The Colorize Selected Tracks pane opens.

  1. Select a color.

Hello guys, apologies for the delay and thanks for your help.

When I restarted Cubase, I did the exact same thing I showed in the videos and it worked, so I’m inclined towards what you both said - probably something else was selected and @wolfger ‘s observation about what is displayed in the Color Picker dialog also hints in the same direction. I was pretty sure I had nothing else selected but I was probably wrong. Next time it happens I’ll use the suggested command “Edit-Menu–> Select –> None”

Thanks once again
