Well, I just read that whole thread and TBH all I really see is a lot of workaround for something that should be a very obvious feature which most certainly can be scripted into the program. Alignment can be calculated and anything that can be calculated can be done so automatically with the aid of a computer.
With the proper if/else statements this can be done by choosing a spacing/alignment priority, where leftmost barline alignment takes precedence over the instrument label spacing, by either violating the margins with the labels, or making specific labels smaller to fit the required space. There does not have to be a feedback loop problem if you make an option to prioritize one thing over another, and give it an order.

I think everything is left aligned to the staff labels, but trumpet 1, 2, 3, 4 pushes everything to the right.

Thanks, I already fixed it here by turning off the “transpose” in the name (taking away the Bb in the label).
Other places in the score are still not aligned however.
I’ve noticed that publishers generally do one of two things to solve this,
either:
- violate the margins with the instrument name, allowing it to go leftward (not aligned).
- keep the instrument labels aligned, but use multiple lines to complete the instrument name where needed.
I’m not seeing an option for allowing multiple lines for instrument names. Is there an option for that?
