How do I get this line to go all the way down?

I want the initial line connecting all the staves to go all the way down to the final staff. It is currently disconnected. Is there a way to fix this?

What’s that last staff? An Ossia maybe? (Staff size is smaller)

If so, setting this in Layout options might help

Yes, it’s an ossia staff. In a previous version of the document, it was connected. Then when I added violin and cello parts above and below the piano part (this is how my prof wants it), I had to drag the ossia staff down under the cello part and I think it became disconnected. Here is what it looked like before I added the violin and cello:

I just realized I’m also having another issue: at the end of each line, the violin isn’t connected to the rest of the staves (see below). Any thoughts on how I could fix this as well?

It would be less guessing if you could attach the project file.

I guess that those staves belong to different instrument groups, which are default not connected.

In Notation Options you can change that.

Wouldn’t it be easier to just create the ossia below the cello?

After going into notation options, the violin is now connected to the other staves, but the ossia is now disconnected on both sides (it used to be connected at the end of each system).

The only place the ossia is connected is at the very end:

I can’t create the ossia below the cello because there are already a bunch of chords in there so I can’t redo it. I wouldn’t care that the ossia is disconnected, but my prof is being very demanding that it be connected.

I suspect the problem you have is by the manual dragging of the Ossia.

Create an extra Ossia, copy the chords, paste them, delete the first Ossia ?

I suppose that could be the reason, but one side was connected before, so it’s weird that both sides are now disconnected.

I will probably just add lines in a pdf editor.

You can join all barlines easily. Select all then (in Engrave) change barline joins

(or have I misunderstood?)

Hi Janus,

These seems like what I need, I’m just confused on how to get to change barline joins. Is that in layout options?

The problem was initially the document was piano with the ossia line underneath. Then when I added violin and cello and dragged the ossia line underneath the cello, the line attaching the ossia line only stayed at the end of every system but disappeared at the beginning of each system.

As I described - do select all (in Write) then (in Engrave) hit the button I highlighted.

I would never drag things around in Dorico. It is simple to add the new ossia where you need it, move notes from the existing ossia (either cut/paste or use alt-M), then delete the original ossia.

Changing the barline joins didn’t work; the ossia is still disconnected.

I don’t want to add a new ossia because it would take me so long to re-enter all the chord names and Roman numerals (it wouldn’t be just copying and pasting the notes), but I will do that if I ever come across this problem again.

upload the file and we’ll sort it out.

You can copy/paste all of that stuff as well.
