When I started my big project by importing a MIDI file from Logic, all the markers I had created came along with it. I thought that was fine until (too late) I found I could not remove or hide them! I’ve walked all the forum articles which mention markers, but could not find anything. I have 128 of these – can I do something?

If these are the light blue signposts which turn darker blue when selected, contain something like q=120, and display “Immediate tempo” (or similar) in the status bar (bottom left of the window):
select the first one, press ctrl/cmd+shift+A twice (maybe again if needed). That should select all of them. Then press Delete.
Before I read your reply, I figured out a way: Select everything, then Edit->Filter->Markers left only the 128 markers selected. Then a simple delete. Thanks for your reply!
