As an incoming Finale refugee, I’m looking for an equivalent to the Transpose Percussion feature in Finale. I’d like to do one of the following:
Select a percussion note (crash cym, for ex.) and move it to Ride Cymbal throughout the score
Select any percussion note to the end of the score without selecting all the entries in the staff so I could just mass-drag em to another instrument
What is the “Dorico method” for doing this?
Make a mass selection of a particular note in the Note Editor - for example, select a note blob (term?) and then extend that selection to the end of the score, as would be possible using a little keyboard in a DAW. Or… how do you make selections in the Note editor outside of what you can see in the panel?
When I select a particular note in the Key Editor and extend the selection to the end of the flow, by whatever means, it also selects the other instrument in the flow. How I do select just one voice?
What I do to achieve more granular control over my individual drum kit instruments is go into Layout Options > Players > Percussion > and select Single-Line Instruments:
I have actually previously tested this out of curiosity, and while in 5-line view they might appear to be discarded, somehow they are actually retained if you return back to the single-line view. They do not appear in the signposts, however, so I am not certain if they carry over in other respects like in a copy/paste function. But I often like to make my cymbals and hi-hats just a little quieter than my kick/snare, and I can confirm that even when it goes to 5-line staff that the playback still retains the dynamic variations, and the single-line instruments will as well!
But also @pianoleo’s advice is a good one too, especially for quick one-off tasks.
OK! Yes, I was able to select to the end of flow, copy, and paste to another percussion line. I tried the ⌥-M shortcut to move the notes to a staff above, but that doesn’t seem to work in this context… is that expected? Or is there another way to move a selected instrument’s entries to another instrument?
Great! Unfortunately the move/duplicate N/M shortcuts are not currently available to single-line/separate unpitched percussion staves, and neither are the standard opt+up down arrows; but AFAIK the dev team is aware of this and possibly looking into it (I think?).
For duplicating, I usually use Dorico’s opt+click mouse feature (with an item selected, and the rhythmic grid value you have set, you can opt+click anywhere else and it will copy the music).
For moving, I usually just use good ol’ cmd+x cut & paste.
