How do i make mediabay preview play through monitors and headphones at the same time?

Hi everyone,

In my Control Room setup I use both monitors and headphones. Normally I use MediaBay preview routed to my monitors, basically the bus set as Monitor 1 in the Control Room. That has always worked fine. So now I wanted to also hear the MediaBay preview through the Control Room headphones output. I went to Preferences, vst, Control Room and enabled the option to use headphones as preview channel. It made it work. But the problem is that once I enable this, the preview audio no longer plays through the main monitors at the same time. Its like kinda exclusive, I mean it switches from monitors to headphones instead of sending to both.

I ended up in a situation where for a specific scenario I needed one person listening on the monitors and another person listened on headphones, both hearing the MediaBay preview at the same time. With the current behavior I cant make that happen. So, Is this just how cubase is designed, or is there a way to change this so preview audio can go to both monitors and headphones simultaneously?

Yes.
Fastest way to change it is to buy Steinberg and, as the new boss, say “The first thing we are going to change…”.

An interesting one.

For this situation, I’m looking to see if there’s a way to make use of the Cue system - so MB preview output is both through main monitors and a headphone (‘cue’) feed as well (i.e. in Control Room, using source buttons, you’d simply switch from your ‘Mix’ to a ‘Cue’ feed - for just this instance.!?!).

As you’ve found, this can’t be achieved switching to the ‘headphone’ source alone - that just changes where the ‘mix’ is routed out.
