Can the inspector/vst rack column in Play mode in Dorico 4 be made wider so I can see the full instrument name? Better still if there was a short cut to make it wider or narrower when necessary.

At present, no, you cannot change the width of the track inspector in Play mode.
No problem. It will encourage me to use shorter names
