How do I prevent this cursor from appearing?

there’s a reason why i already disabled the volume edit button that appears on the clip. i don’t want to accidentally click it and go into value edit mode. but it’s STILL THERE.
how do i remove this?

You want to click on the orange part to disable the smart selection.

are you saying the button should turn on into orange? i’ve never had it on.
and even if i do turn it on, that doesn’t do anything. the caret still appears and when i click, it goes into volume edit mode.

I just saw the range selection cursor in a red square on the lower part of the event and thought it was about that. You’re saying that there’s a phantom volume control in that spot. I haven’t encountered that yet, sorry. Maybe someone else has, let’s wait a bit.
