Hi all, probably missing something obvious here but how do I put in more than one tempo change in the same measure? Ideally I would like to have both “dotted eight = eight” AND the “L’istesso tempo” marking but Dorico only allows me to enter one of them in the same measure. I would like it to appear like the last picture.
You have to enter them at slightly different grid positions.
I would go for using “L’istesso tempo” as a “real” tempo entry, and “dq = q” as system text. This way you can have both of them at the same rhythmic position.
If you use tempo text for both of them, you will have to move one of them to some other rhythmic position, which will in turn cause multimeasure rests to be broken.
Thank you. Seems logical.
Sorry but how do I enter dotted quarter and quarter in the system text window? I only know how to enter plain text here. (I’m sure this is an easy one as well, but I struggle to find it.)
Right click in the text field and Music Text>Find the dotted quarter and quarter there? I just tried, and it’s too complicated.
Use Metrico font? Yes, that works really easily.
Thanks. Did not know about this but there seems to be a LOT of music texts options.
One last question. The only notes that show up are the “recently used” and unfortunately there is no dotted quarter here. I can “fake” it and add a “.” in the text field as plain text but it doesn’t look 100%. Where do I find a dotted quarter among the Music Text alternatives?
It’s a dropdown. click it and you have access to the whole character set (it can be bewilderingly huge!)
Yes, I discovered the drop-down list but as you said, it’s huge and I have no idea where to look. Any suggestions where I might find a dotted eight note? Thanks for helping!
As I wrote, it’s too complicated, because the notes won’t fit the text before, won’t merge well with the =, etc.
I really urge you to try Metrico font or MusGlyph font (I think they’re both donationwares, created by our fellow Doricians @fkretlow and @dan_kreider
Those are really useful and quite easy to use (just use them as text in a text body with other fonts and it will work flawlessly)
Hi @JALS,
ss @MarcLarcher said, it needs a little work (after choosing the symbols, you may want to select them and choose Bravura as Font, and the = signs needs to be set smaller and the letter distance to be adjusted, etc…), and I suggest too the alternative fonts recommendations.
The desired symbols for this case are to be found in the Individual notes range.
Anyway in the range list, just below the Recently used there is a All ranges choice, where you can then scroll among all the symbols (if you need some symbol in future)
Tip: if you know the name of a desired range, if you tipp the first three letter of the name, it will scroll and select the desired range, in the ranges list:
Haha. I seem to have stumbled on to a problem slightly more complicated than I expected! On the other hand, this is probably a good time for me to familiarize with the suggested font alternatives and also the different Insert Music Text options. I’ll look into this today and come back if I have any further questions!
Thanks everyone for all help so far!
